The North Carolina Museum of Historyannounces that the 25th annual African American Cultural Celebration has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 28, at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The celebration is postponed due to weather-related concerns to ensure a safe and welcoming experience for all participants and guests. Both museums are part of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR).
For 25 years, the African American Cultural Celebration has served as North Carolina's premier kickoff to Black History Month. Performers, artists, educators, and community members come together for a vibrant day filled with music, dance, storytelling, art, and educational activities. Guests of all ages experience the rich heritage and living culture of African Americans in North Carolina through engaging presentations, craft demonstrations, and cultural conversations.
Event highlights include:
· Virtual Education Day:A free virtual program for students, teachers, and lifelong learners featuring storytelling by the North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers and live-streamed music performances. The Virtual Education Day will still be held on Friday, January 30.
· Hands-on Activities:Family-friendly craft activities and take-home creative kits.
· Artisan Demonstrations:Pottery, quilting, basketry, jewelry-making, and other traditional arts.
· Performances:Live storytelling and dynamic drumming and dance.
