Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Ms Grace Fu reviewed a commissioning parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 398 cadets, comprising 314 from the Singapore Army, 34 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 50 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Speaking at the parade, Ms Fu reflected on the importance of resilience in an increasingly complex global security environment. She said, "Today's threats, such as misinformation campaigns, supply chain disruptions and hybrid warfare, affect not just the military, but the whole society. Singapore will require a whole-of-nation, and multi-generational effort to defend. Everyone in Singapore must play a role in strengthening our resilience."

Ms Fu expressed her hope that the newly-minted officers would carry the responsibility of defending Singapore and safeguarding our way of life. She said, "…the journey ahead will be full of challenges, but also a meaningful one. You are now part of a proud tradition and carry the responsibility of defending Singapore and safeguarding our way of life. Lead with courage, excel in your service, and overcome adversity, stand ready to defend Singapore and Singaporeans."

The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training in the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly-commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF. Also present at the parade were Chief of Defence Force, Vice-Admiral Aaron Beng, senior Ministry of Defence officials and SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly-commissioned officers.
