BELFAST, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins delivered remarks at the grand opening ceremony for Penobscot Community Health Center's (PCHC) newly renovated Seaport Dental Center in Belfast. The 8-chair dental clinic is expected to serve approximately 7,200 patients each year and will provide acute and walk-in dental care services.
Dental care access in Waldo County is limited, especially for MaineCare, uninsured, and underinsured patients, and the new clinic will help reduce reliance on emergency departments for urgent dental needs.
"Dental care is an integral part of overall health care, yet too many families in Maine's rural communities face long wait times and long drives to receive the services they need," said Senator Collins. "In Waldo County, there are more than 5,700 residents for every dentist, more than twice the state average. The Seaport Dental Center is an outstanding example of how a community-based facility can help close that gap. I was proud to secure more than $1.3 million to support this renovation project, which will help increase access to vital dental care for families in Belfast and throughout Waldo County."
In 2024, Senator Collins secured more than $1.3 million through her role on the Senate Appropriations Committee to support the renovation of the dental center, which is co-located with PCHC's primary care space.
