The non-Mainer with a shady business background
Augusta, Maine - Today, Jonathan Bush launched a new adtouting his record as a businessman, claiming "I've made my career disrupting the status quo, creating jobs, and helping people achieve their American dreams."
The truth is that Jonathan Bush's record in business is shrouded in allegations of misconduct, harassment - and failure. He was forced to resign as CEO of Athenahealth amidst reports of unprofessional behavior and poor management. Now, Bush is trying to rewrite that record.
Maine Democratic Party executive director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
"Being governor shouldn't be a consolation prize for a failed and controversial business career. Jonathan Bush was pressured to resign from the company he founded in Massachusetts. Now Bush wants Mainers to trust him with our jobs and economy. His questionable record as an out-of-state executive makes it clear that he is trying to reinvent himself for political gain, but us Mainers won't fall for it."
Fierce Healthcare: Athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush steps down as board considers a sale
By Evan Sweeney - Jun 6, 2018
Jonathan Bush has stepped down from his role as CEO of Athenahealth after more than two decades, the company announced Wednesday morning.
Bush's resignation follows several reports of unprofessional behavior and comes as the company board confirmed it is exploring "strategic alternatives," including a sale.
"As part of this process, the Board will consider a sale, merger or other transaction involving the company as well as continuing as an independent company," Athenahealth said in an announcement.
The announcement comes on the heels of growing pressure from activist investor Elliott Management for the company to sell. In May, Elliott publicized a $160 per share offer and said it tried to engage the company in talks of a private takeover last November but was quickly rebuffed.
