Every year, the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) accepts donations from Juneau residents to support the thousands of colorful plants that brighten community spaces throughout town. All donations made to the Adopt-A-Flower program fund 200 hanging baskets, 60 flower barrels, and 50 flower beds and planters in Juneau - from Juneau's libraries, harbors, and Bartlett Regional Hospital to Twin Lakes, Sigoo Wu Ye, and other community parks. To donate and support this annual program, visit the tab "Special Events" under the Parks & Recreation registration catalog.
All donations received by April 30, 2026 will be recognized on an Adopt-A-Flower sign displayed at Marine Park Plaza. Donations for the Adopt-A-Flower program come in various funding levels:
The first seven people who donate $500 or more will receive a hanging basket from the CBJ Parks & Recreation Landscape Division.
Many of the flowers that CBJ plants start as seedlings in CBJ's Mendenhall Valley greenhouse. In preparation for the summer season, CBJ Parks & Recreation Landscape Division staff members plant and care for more than 16,000 seedlings. The flowers are then transplanted to their summer displays in May.
CBJ Parks & Recreation greatly appreciates community support for this program, which fund over 60% of the cost of planting materials each year. The program is also funded by Marine Passenger Fees, general funds, and revenue from Docks and Harbors, Bartlett Regional Hospital, the Juneau International Airport and downtown parking.
