Should You Buy Reddit Stock For Its Cash

Reddit (RDDT) stock closed on October 30, 2026, down 64.6% from its all-time high set on January 13. That close came the day after the October 29 earnings call, as the stock fell 29.2% in a single session. At that price, Reddit's free cash flow over the last twelve months equals 6.8% of its market value, compared with 4.3% for the median S&P 500 company. A cash yield that high can mean the shares are on sale, or that investors expect the business to get smaller. So which is true of Reddit?

Reddit's Free Cash Flow Has Grown For Three Years

Based on its results so far, Reddit looks more like a business on sale. That cash matters to an owner. Each share represents a claim on the cash the business makes, whether it is paid out or not, and the cash Reddit keeps still belongs to its shareholders. When investors come to value that cash, the share price tends to follow, especially when the cash is growing.

Reddit makes its money from ads. Advertising revenue accounted for $847 million of the company's $895 million in revenue during fiscal Q3 2026. The direct cost of delivering these ads is small, with Reddit's gross margin over the last twelve months standing at 91.5%. Management called the business capital light, and capital spending took just 0.55% of the cash from operations during that time.

Measured over twelve-month periods, Reddit's free cash flow has risen at every quarter end since September 2023, when it was still an outflow. For the twelve months ending September 30, 2026, free cash flow reached $1.2 billion, more than double the $510 million recorded a year earlier.

There is almost no debt to serve. Reddit owed $31 million on September 30, 2026, compared with $3.03 billion in cash and short-term investments.

Reddit Is Losing Visitors From Google Search

Management said on the October 29, 2026 call that the number of visitors arriving from search fell meaningfully in fiscal Q3 2026, and that the decline accelerated late in the quarter and was still underway in October. People still want Reddit, management said, but Google is not sending them the way it used to. If October's pace continues, management said, Reddit's daily users could fall by a low double-digit percentage in fiscal Q4 2026 from the current base of 130 million.

Revenue growth has eased over each of the last three quarters, landing at 53% from a year earlier in fiscal Q3 2026, and management's guidance for fiscal Q4 2026 projects growth of 38% to 42%. The share price appears to assume that losing those visitors will slow the cash as well.

Management's plan is to retain more of the users who do visit. In fiscal Q4 2026, the company will begin full tests of a logged-in only version of Reddit across select markets outside the U.S. The move will likely trade reach for engagement, management said. Management said 80% of Reddit's revenue comes from its app and logged-in users, and the share of new app users who return in their first week was up more than 50% from a year earlier.

What Reddit's Holders Still Need To Find Out

Reddit's debt is small beside its cash, leaving the cash itself as the open question: whether free cash flow keeps rising at each quarter end while fewer visitors arrive from Google, or levels off as sales growth slows. Reddit is expected to report fiscal Q4 2026 results in February 2027. Free cash flow for that quarter, measured against the same quarter a year earlier, is the number to watch.
