Rosatom State Corporation representatives took part in the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, held on 16 March 2026 in Windhoek, Republic of Namibia. The meeting was co chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yury Trutnev, who heads the Russian part of the Commission, and Minister of International Relations and Trade of the Republic of Namibia Selma Ashipala Musavyi, who heads the Namibian part of the Commission.
The agenda focused on expanding cooperation in subsoil use, primarily with regard to uranium projects, as well as on further developing interaction in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The discussion of Russian-Namibian projects involved representatives of Russia's nuclear industry, including Kirill Egorov-Kirillov, Director for Mining Projects, JSC Uranium One Group (part of Rosatom State Corporation), and Alexey Semenov, Advisor and Head of Business Development, Rosatom Central and Southern Africa.
They presented plans for the development of the Headspring Investments project, including further exploration and development of deposits, a phased increase in uranium production over a horizon of more than 25 years, as well as localisation of projects and the creation of long-term jobs. The event reaffirmed the intention of both parties to expand practical cooperation.
Kirill Egorov-Kirillov said: "Namibia is already one of the world's leading uranium producers and demonstrates a long term vision for developing its resource base. For Rosatom and Uranium One, this is not only an opportunity to implement high-tech projects in the mining sector, but also a contribution to building a sustainable, low-carbon energy system in Southwest Africa. We expect that the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the business forum in Windhoek will help take our joint initiatives to a new level and give additional momentum to practical cooperation between Russian and Namibian companies".
