West Hollywood Water Main Break: What Residents Need to Know

For immediate release:
Thursday, July 16, 2026

This morning, a major LADWP water main break near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard, Holloway Drive, and Horn Avenue caused significant flooding in portions of West Hollywood, impacting residents, commuters, and Metro service.

My office is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with local officials. According to information shared by the West Hollywood Heights Neighborhood Association, the City of West Hollywood, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath's Office, here are the latest updates:

Road Closures

Please avoid the area if possible. The following roads are currently closed:

  • Eastbound Sunset Boulevard between Larrabee Street and Sherbourne Drive
  • Eastbound Holloway Drive between Sunset Boulevard and Westmount Drive
  • Eastbound Santa Monica Boulevard between San Vicente Boulevard and Hancock Avenue
  • Larrabee Street, Palm Avenue, and Hancock Avenue are closed in both directions between Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard

Residents can currently access the neighborhood via Sherbourne Drive.

Water Service

According to the City of West Hollywood, water service has been restored to residences on Horn Avenue and Shoreham Drive, with the possible exception of Shoreham Towers. City staff remain onsite coordinating with LADWP as crews continue investigating the cause of the break.

LADWP has confirmed there is currently no impact to drinking water quality.

Metro Service

The flooding significantly impacted Metro's Division 7 Bus Depot, resulting in delays and detours on multiple bus lines. Please check Metro service alerts before traveling.

If Your Property Was Damaged

There are currently no evacuation warnings or orders associated with this incident.

Residents are encouraged to document any damage by taking photographs and videos of their home, vehicle, or other property and keeping receipts for any related expenses. This documentation may be important if you need to file an insurance claim.

The following guidance comes from California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara's Office:

  • Check your auto insurance policy to determine whether you have comprehensive coverage, which may cover flood damage.
  • Do not attempt to start your vehicle until you have received guidance from your insurance company.
  • Contact your insurance carrier as soon as possible to begin the claims process.

If you have questions about your insurance coverage or need assistance with your claim, the California Department of Insurance can help.
