Tactical Teams Responding to Incident in North Portland
PPB's Tactical Teams are responding to a report of a man possibly armed with a gun in a North Portland Neighborhood.
On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 8:02 a.m., Portland Police Officers from North Precinct and Multnomah County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call regarding a man on a bus, who a witness said was possibly in possession of a gun. There were no injuries.
Officers and deputies confronted the man, but he did not comply with orders and ran into a nearby backyard. Officers called in extra resources to create a perimeter and because of the possibility that he may have a gun, they have activated PPB's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Criss Negotiation Team (CNT). The perimeter is only one block in the area of North Rosa Parks Way to North Holman Street, and North Maryland to North Montana Streets. Residents within that perimeter have been asked to stay inside just as a precaution.
A nearby middle school has been notified and officers are assisting in getting students safely inside for their classes. Road users should be advised that North Rosa Parks Way is closed west of I-5 for safety and equipment staging.
PPB will update this information as soon as it is available.
