Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs meets with Head of Asia Pacific Division, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation

On 13 February 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Markus Leitner, Head of Asia Pacific Division, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Thailand and Switzerland, including promoting high-level visits, organizing the forthcoming 8th Thailand - Switzerland Political Consultations, progress in the ratification of the Thailand - European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement, as well as sectoral cooperation in areas such as the bio-based economy, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges. The Thai side also informed the Swiss side of the results of Thailand's recent general election and the subsequent government formation process.

Both sides exchanged views on multilateral cooperation, particularly Thailand's accession to the OECD, Switzerland's 2026 Chairpersonship of the OSCE, as well as cooperation within the United Nations and ASEAN frameworks. They also discussed recent developments along the Thailand - Cambodia border.
