Book editors to discuss working with scholarly presses

Jan. 21, 2025 - DENTON - Four professional book editors will share advice and insights on working with scholarly presses, finding the best press for your project, and navigating the non-fiction submissions process in a panel discussion hosted by the TWU College of Arts & Sciences.

The discussion will take place Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m. via Zoom. Participating will be:

  • David Blakesley, founding editor for Parlor Press which publishes in a wide range of fields, and acquiring editor in visual rhetoric.
  • Mike Baccam, University of Washington Press, who acquires in Asian American studies, western US history, environmental history and critical ethnic studies.
  • AnaLouise Keating, series editor for Transformations: Womanist, Feminist and Indigenous Studies at University of Illinois Press.
  • Elizabeth Ault, Duke University Press, who acquires in American studies, women's studies, African studies, sociology and geography, working with scholars in trans studies, disability studies, critical ethnic studies, Black geographies, witch studies and more. She works with the editors of several book series, including Practices, Black Feminism on the Edge, ASTERISK, Theory in Forms and Camera Obscura.

The first round of questions will be pre-scripted by faculty participating in TWU's Dissertation to Book program before opening the panel to questions.

While your specific discipline may not be listed, the advice applies broadly for academic presses and could shape your next project for publication.

This event is of particular interest to TWU faculty and graduate students, but is open to all students.
