Nampa Parks & Recreation announces the opening of a newly expanded pollinator garden at West Park in Nampa, and invites the community to attend a ribbon-cutting celebration on Thursday, June 26 at 4:00 p.m.
The original West Park Pollinator Garden measured approximately 800 square feet and featured nine raised planter beds with a handful of perennial plants. Over the past 17 years, the University of Idaho-Canyon County Extension Master Gardeners collaborated with the City of Nampa to assist with the maintenance of the garden.
The recently expanded pollinator garden now encompasses 5,000 square feet and includes 267 plants across 27 different species. Its expanded footprint includes walking paths to allow visitors to fully experience and engage with the space. The garden offers a tranquil environment for visitors while highlighting the significance of bird and insect pollinators in our urban ecosystem. Additionally, it aims to inspire visitors to cultivate pollinator-friendly plants at home, thereby promoting biodiversity and supporting a healthier balance of plant and animal life.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the community partners for their collaboration in selecting and donating plants and materials, as well as constructing three new benches and a pergola. This project would not have been possible without the support of The Azek Company, Canyon County Master Gardeners, University of Idaho Canyon County Extension, Boy Scouts of America, Treasure Valley Canopy Network, and Franz Witte.
The pollinator garden is located on the far east side of West Park (27 S. Park Drive, Nampa). For more information, call 208-468-5858.
