Arlington, VA - The House Energy & Commerce Committee announced plans to advance federal legislation to protect children from online harms and uphold children's data privacy, including a package called the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act that combines nearly a dozen existing bills, at an upcoming full Committee markup hearing on Thursday, March 5. With Thursday's markup, House Energy & Commerce Committee Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) takes a significant step forward in the Committee's ongoing work to protect children from addictive and harmful practices perpetuated by large social media platforms.
"We thank Chairman Guthrie for his tireless efforts to advance common-sense digital safeguards and urgently-needed protections to shield young people from harm online," said Danielle Coffey, News/Media Alliance President & CEO . "Preserving access to high-quality journalism for users of all ages is a digital safety issue. The Alliance looks forward to continuing our work with Chairman Guthrie and Ranking Member Pallone to ensure that digital safety legislation shields America's children from online harm and protects news media entities' ability to educate, inform, and engage Americans of all ages."
