San Mateo County is launching its first Family Justice Center. Family Justice Centers provide multi-disciplinary services to victims of interpersonal violence such as sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking. By providing all services in one location, Family Justice Centers reduce the number of times victims tell their stories and also reduce the number of places victims visit to seek help. The result is reduced trauma and increased access to services for victims and their families.
Following the recommendation of Alliance For Hope International, San Mateo County and Chief Executive Officer Michael Callagy have asked the District Attorney's Office to build and operate the Family Justice Center. The Family Justice Center will be located at 1510 Fashion Island Boulevard in San Mateo. San Mateo County's Child Advocacy Center will be permanently relocated to the Family Justice Center.
The District Attorney's Office has hired Peggy Sherbon as the Family Justice Center's Director. Ms. Sherbon has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Public Administration, both from Purdue University. In 2005 she joined the Bonner County Prosecutor's Office in Idaho as a victim advocate. In 2017 she developed Bonner County's LillyBrooke Family Justice Center and has been serving as the Director.
At the District Attorney's Office, we are excited to welcome Ms. Sherbon to lead our new Family Justice Center and better serve victims and their families.
