TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Lilly Roehrig, a junior at The University of Alabama, was among 65 college students nationally to earn a Udall Undergraduate Scholarship, which identifies future leaders in environmental, tribal public policy and healthcare fields.
Roehrig, a native of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, is the second UA student to receive the Udall Scholarship in the past two years.
Roehrig is working on a dual degree in environmental science and English with a minor in the Honors College's Blount Scholars Program. She is also part of the Accelerated Master's Program for a master's degree in environmental and natural resources.
"I am humbled to have been selected for the Udall Scholarship and thrilled to work with my fellow 2026 awardees and Udall alumni as I move forward in my career," said Roehrig. "This honor has not only affirmed to me that I can become a leader in my field, but also that interdisciplinary work is both valuable and necessary."
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship Program honors the legacies of Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on Native American self-governance, healthcare, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.
Roehrig serves as president of the Forest Stewards Guild where she leads and coordinates efforts to support local forest ecosystems. She is also the poetry editor for the campus digital magazine Ripple Arts Review, and her poetry has been published in the campus journals Dewpoint and SPACE: A Student Journal for Public Audiences.
After graduating from UA, Roehrig plans to dedicate her life to public service and conservation where she will approach her work from an interdisciplinary perspective.
