NECIC meeting in Geneva: Strong concerns raised over planned job cuts

Published: 30/12/2025

The NECIC meeting took place in Geneva on 25 and 26 November, bringing together workers' representatives and management. The central issue discussed was Nestlé's announcement of a cut of 16,000 jobs, presented in a presentation entitled "Fuel for Growth." Workers' representatives expressed serious concerns about this decision, as no clear information was provided on how these job cuts will be implemented or on their concrete impact on employees. Management indicated that local management will be responsible for developing and presenting implementation plans, thereby shifting significant responsibility to the local level.

More detailed information on these plans is expected during the first quarter of 2026. The workers' side made it clear that this timeline creates ongoing uncertainty for the workforce. An ad hoc NECIC meeting will be convened to ensure proper consultation.

On the second day of the meeting, delegates welcomed management with placards reflecting the anxiety felt by workers, stating: 16,000 jobs cut - What is my fate? Joint venture, fired, or do I stay?

This action sent a strong message: Workers expect transparency, meaningful consultation, and clear answers about their future.

The IUF will closely monitor developments and will not hesitate to demand further discussions to protect jobs, working conditions, and workers' rights. Updates will be shared as soon as new information becomes available.
