Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03)released the following statement ahead of Senator Markwayne Mullin's swearing-in ceremony as Homeland Security Secretary at the White House:

"Shame on every Democrat and Republican Senator who voted to confirm another unqualified, anti-immigrant loyalist as Secretary of Homeland Security. Markwayne Mullin's history of bigotry, threats, and violence makes it clear that he has no intention of reining in the terror unleashed by DHS in our communities. Mullin will implement Trump and Miller's campaign of terror without question, just as Noem did.

As Mullin takes his oath today at the White House, may he be reminded that the words he is repeating carry with them a profound responsibility. The American people will evaluate him based on his commitment to the oath he takes today. As it was with his predecessor, we are watching, and the American people will hold him accountable.

Regardless of the figurehead Trump appoints and sellout Senators confirm as Secretary of DHS, we know the world we are building: one where no billionaires profit from our pain, where we abolish ICE and end detention, and we dismantle DHS.
