AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act Clears Key Hurdle

- Next Challenge: Floor Vote

The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, which Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is leading in the U.S. Senate, is now positioned for a potential House floor vote after clearing the House Energy and Commerce Committee by a vote of 50-1 with all six Texans on the panel - four Republicans and two Democrats - in support.

Reps. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, and Randy Weber, R-Pearland, were among a few of the committee members who spoke out to underscore the value and importance to community safety of enacting the measure which now has the support of more than two-thirds of both the U.S. House and Senate.

To date, 21 members of the Texas members of the House are now officially on record as co-sponsors.

The next step to ensure its final passage is securing floor votes in both chambers before Congress adjourns at the end of the year so it can advance to the White House for enactment.

The measure is a response to plans announced two years ago by a handful of electric vehicle manufacturers to discontinue the offering. The automakers claimed they couldn't resolve interference created by the EV motors despite competitors successfully deploying the technology.

The record labels' push to attach their ill-advised measure enacting a Performance Tax on Radio stations to the AM Radio bill failed to gain traction among lawmakers.
