Kaden Claar, Penn State Altoona student-athlete in men's basketball
LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona guard Kaden Claar, of Portage, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Athlete of the Week in men's basketball, the league office announced on Feb. 9.
Claar had a solid week for the Lions as they went 2-1 in AMCC play at home.
In Monday night's victory over Pitt Bradford, Claar contributed 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Against Carlow, Claar had 18 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and four steals. In Saturday afternoon's comeback Senior Day victory over La Roche, Claar had 11 points, including the buzzer-beater that gave the Lions a 62-60 victory. Claar also had nine rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
On the week, Claar averaged 15.3 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game, 2.7 steals per game, and 1.3 assists per game.
In the AMCC, Claar ranks ninth in points per game with 15.0, 11th in rebounds per game with 5.7, 11th in three-point field goal percentage with 35.8, first in free throw percentage with 87.8, and second in steals with 51.
This is Claar's first AMCC Athlete of the Week award of his collegiate career.
Penn State Altoona men's basketball is 11-10 overall and 5-7 in AMCC so far this season. The Lions will travel to face local rivals Mount Aloysius at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center on Feb. 11. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
