Moffat County - The Colorado Department of Transportation, along with its contracting partner, Myers & Sons Construction, will begin a culvert replacement project May 4 on Colorado Highway 318 at Mile Point 1.25, located just east of the border with Utah. The work is expected to conclude in October with minimal impacts to motorists.
This project involves replacing the culvert on CO 318 near the Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge in Northwestern Colorado. The work will include removing the existing corrugated metal pipe culvert and installing a new concrete box culvert.
Culverts are vital infrastructure components that allow water to flow under the road, preventing flooding, erosion, and structural damage to the roadway above. Box culverts, such as the one that will be installed at this location, can handle greater volumes of water than pipe culverts.
