Strengthening the Community's Economy, PT Timah Supports Farmers in Kundur with Seedlings

KUNDUR -- PT Timah Tbk once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting community economic growth through the agricultural sector. This time, as a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, the company distributed seedlings to the Bina Tani Tailong farmers group in Kundur Village, West Kundur District, Riau Islands Province.

The pineapple seedlings are expected to boost farmers' productivity while also strengthening food security for the community. This program is part of PT Timah's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that focus on community empowerment.

Chairman of the Bina Tani Tailong farmers group, Suparno, said that the assistance from PT Timah will be used by group members who will plant pineapples. In addition to purchasing seedlings, the support is also allocated for land clearing, fertilizers, and other needs.

They chose to develop pineapple farming because it has high economic value, strong demand, and relatively easy maintenance.

"We will start planting pineapples because the demand is high, the market potential is broad, reaching Batam or Tanjung Balai Karimun, and the maintenance is not too difficult since pest attacks are relatively minimal," said Suparno.

According to Suparno, this is the second time their group has received assistance from PT Timah, after previously receiving a mini cultivator tractor which they have greatly benefited from.

"The previous support was a mini cultivator tractor that has been very useful for our members in opening up land, saving both costs and labor for tilling the soil before planting," he said.

He expressed his appreciation for PT Timah's support for their group, enabling them to continue improving agricultural productivity. Moving forward, he hopes this synergy will continue so that they can contribute to food security.

"Thank you for PT Timah's support, this truly motivates us and helps a lot because purchasing pineapple seedlings on our own is quite expensive. Hopefully, in the future we can become PT Timah's partner in supporting food security, especially in Kundur," he added.

Meanwhile, PT Timah Tbk's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, said the company remains committed to supporting the development of the community's agricultural sector.

This seedling assistance is expected not only to increase agricultural yields but also to create opportunities for farmers to develop sustainable businesses.
