The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has announced the Red Slender Loris as the official mascot of the 9th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention (CADP-2025), to be held in Colombo from 25-27 November 2025. This rare and endangered primate, found only in Sri Lanka's rainforests, has become a powerful symbol of the summit's theme: "Building Resilience Through Media: For a Cleaner, Greener, and Safer Tomorrow."
Every Red Slender Loris is a rare treasure of Sri Lanka. Dependent on stable, humid rainforests, this small, wide-eyed creature is deeply vulnerable to habitat loss and the impacts of climate change. By choosing the Loris as its mascot, the ABU and SLRC highlights the urgent need to protect biodiversity and the delicate balance of ecosystems that sustain life.
The 9th ABU Media Summit, hosted by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), will bring together media leaders, climate experts, disaster response agencies, and civil society to strengthen cooperation and inspire action. The summit will also launch a new Disaster Preparedness and Response Plans (DPRP) Model, developed by ABU with UNESCO's support, and feature the ABU Together for People, Planet, Peace (T4P) Media Awards Gala on 26 November 2025.
Climate change is real, and the threat is urgent but together, we can make a difference. The Red Slender Loris reminds us that protecting our planet begins with awareness and action. Join global leaders, media professionals, and changemakers in Colombo this November to help build a cleaner, greener, and safer tomorrow.
Registration is still open at ABU Media Summit 2025. For enquiries, please contact Ms Nargiza Numanova, head of the ABU Secretary-General's Office at [email protected].
