Seven physical therapists and physical therapist assistants at Loma Linda University Health's Neuropathic Therapy Center (NTC) have become the first clinicians in the nation to complete certification in Intraneural Facilitation (INF®), marking a significant milestone in the advancement of specialized neuropathy care.
The inaugural certification cohort included seven NTC clinicians and Medical Director Dr. Mark Bussell, developer of the INF® treatment approach. As the first clinicians in the nation to complete the certification process, participants demonstrated mastery through extensive education, ultrasound competency development, patient treatment experience, and successful completion of rigorous certification requirements.
Achieving INF® certification required a substantial commitment beyond traditional licensure and continuing education requirements, including:
• Completion of 40 structured training modules
• Treatment of approximately 150 patients with documented outcomes
• Approximately 80 hours of ultrasound training
• Successful completion of a comprehensive 175-question certification examination requiring 100% mastery of the material
• An estimated 150-200+ hours of additional education, training, and clinical competency development
"These clinicians have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing their expertise and delivering high-quality patient care," Bussell said. "This INF® certification program represents an important milestone in advancing the quality and consistency of Intraneural Facilitation therapy as we continue to expand access to this specialized treatment approach."
Founded in 2017, the Neuropathic Therapy Center serves as both a clinical and research enterprise dedicated to evaluating, refining, and advancing innovative treatment approaches for patients living with peripheral neuropathy. Since opening, the center has treated thousands of patients and continues to contribute to the growing body of research surrounding neuropathy care.
As the program expands, certified clinicians will play a critical role in mentoring future therapists and ensuring consistency across locations. The Neuropathic Therapy Center opened its second location at Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta in March 2024, and a third clinic is anticipated to open in Rancho Mirage in December 2026.
The certification milestone reflects Loma Linda University Health's continued commitment to innovation, education, research, and expanding access to specialized neuropathy treatment throughout Southern California.
