Man arrested for Manslaughter after fatal crash

On May 12 at 11:27 p.m. Eugene Police officers were dispatched to eastbound Beltline Hwy. near the River Road exit after a Dodge Ram truck rear-ended a Cascade Cab Dodge Caravan taxi at high speed. A passenger in the taxi suffered significant injuries. A doctor, who happened to be in the area, assisted with CPR and the male victim was transported to a local hospital. The taxi's driver was also injured, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and he was transported to a hospital. The passenger, 80-year-old John Thomas Davenport, subsequently died on May 26, as a result of his injuries.

Then on September 27, after the conclusion of an investigation, the driver of the Dodge Ram, 42-year- Fernando Patricio-Hernandez, of Albany, was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering, and Manslaughter in the First Degree.
