The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has fended off fresh attempts at cyber-attacks on its website and national infrastructure

Since this morning, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been the target of a cyber-attack, which has so far been effectively mitigated by the security systems without causing any disruption to services.

The situation is being constantly monitored by the Ministry, in collaboration with the National Strategic Centre and in coordination with the relevant authorities. Analyses are also being carried out on the websites of Italian diplomatic and consular missions abroad to check for any similar attempts.

"Cybersecurity is a key element of the reform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved last year. In recent months, we have strengthened our capabilities in preventing, monitoring and responding to threats, implementing all the necessary countermeasures, including technological ones," emphasised Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, who had also had the opportunity to explain the technical aspects of the CSIRT Operations Centre to the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, during his recent visit to Rome. Against this backdrop, Italy has decided to work alongside Romania and other Member States to include, in forthcoming European meetings, proposals to designate those responsible for cyber-attacks, including those targeting Italian institutions.
