Shasby steps down as UAA head coach

University of Alaska Anchorage head hockey coach Matt Shasby announced today that he is stepping away as head coach, effective immediately.

"We appreciate Matt's service to the hockey team and the university," said acting athletic director Tanya Pont. "He stepped in during an important chapter for the program, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Shasby compiled an overall record of 34-86-9 over four seasons, including a mark of 15-17-2 in 2023-24. During his tenure, the Seawolves notched wins over ranked opponents, including road wins against No. 6 Wisconsin in 2023 and No. 6 Denver in 2025.

The university will begin an immediate search for the next head coach.
