NEW YORK, December 11, 2025 - Hearst today announced that Sean Lanagan, president and CEO of its CAMP Systems International business, will also become president of Hearst Transportation. He will succeed Thomas D. Cross, senior vice president of Hearst and president of Hearst Transportation, who will retire on January 31, 2026.
"Sean has done a great job leading CAMP and now will also work with our management at MOTOR, Black Book and Noregon Systems to continue to grow our Transportation division," said Steven R. Swartz, president and chief executive officer of Hearst. "I also want to thank Tom for his many years of leadership and to note that Tom has agreed to continue helping us as a consultant."
Lanagan joined CAMP in 2016 and has led the company in expanding its mission-critical aviation software and data services used by operators, manufacturers and maintenance professionals worldwide. His leadership experience spans more than two decades in building and scaling enterprise software businesses.
Cross, who has served in leadership roles across Hearst's transportation companies for more than 20 years, will remain in his position through the end of January to support the transition. Lanagan begins his expanded role on February 1.
"I am honored to take on this expanded role and build on the strong foundation Tom and the Hearst Transportation team have created," Lanagan said. "Our transportation businesses deliver indispensable data and technology to customers around the world, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the group to further strengthen our offerings and support our customers' success."
Hearst Transportation is the transportation data and software business within Hearst, bringing together four key companies: CAMP Systems International, which specializes in aviation maintenance tracking and health-monitoring software; Black Book, a provider of vehicle valuation and analytics; MOTOR Information Systems, focused on automotive parts and repair data; and Noregon Systems, delivering diagnostics and prognostics solutions for heavy-duty trucks.
These companies form part of Hearst's Business Media portfolio, which encompasses a broad range of B2B software and data services - including Fitch Group and five healthcare companies - and collectively contributes to approximately 60 percent of Hearst's total profits.
Prior to CAMP, Lanagan led critical operations for Bain Capital portfolio company SevOne and spent over a decade at EMC where he held several entrepreneurial and P&L management roles. Before EMC, Lanagan was a product manager with Sequoia Capital portfolio company Documentum and an investment banker with Morgan Stanley. He is a thought leader on go-to-market strategy and solutions development for regulated industries and has published a Harvard Business School case on "Crossing the Chasm."
Lanagan holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a master of business administration from Harvard Business School. He is a graduate of Hearst's executive development program, Hearst Management Institute.
