WSU graduate students, alumni rally to deliver five vans of wildfire relief supplies to Spokane

When devastating wildfires displaced families and strained community resources across the Spokane region, Washington State University graduate students, alumni, and campus partners responded with remarkable speed and generosity.

Led by the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA), volunteers organized a community donation drive in Pullman that filled five university vans with essential supplies destined for organizations serving wildfire survivors in Spokane. The effort brought together students, alumni, faculty, staff, university leadership, and local businesses, demonstrating the Cougar community's commitment to helping neighbors in times of crisis.

The initiative began with an urgent call to action encouraging the WSU community to donate high-priority items, including nonperishable food, hygiene products, hydration supplies, masks, and other emergency essentials. Grocery Outlet in Pullman provided space for the collection effort, while additional donations from community partners strengthened the response.

Behind the scenes, GPSA leaders coordinated transportation logistics with WSU administration, securing five vans and volunteer drivers to ensure donations reached Spokane agencies quickly and efficiently. The supplies were sorted and delivered to organizations providing direct assistance to individuals and families impacted by the fires.

The response reflected the power of collaboration across the WSU community. Alumni joined students in collecting, loading, and transporting donations, while university leaders helped connect volunteers with transportation resources and regional partners to maximize the impact of the effort.
