On Dec. 15, the Washington Commanders and the Green Family Foundation hosted the Holiday Huddle youth football clinic for dozens of DC Housing Authority youth at the BigBear.ai Performance Center in Ashburn, Va.
At the Holiday Huddle, NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green, Commanders players and coaches led DCHA youth through football drills and lessons on football fundamentals. Commanders mascot Major Tuddy was also at the event and took part in the activities.
"It's important to all of us and these young people," Green told WUSA9. "This is what we get to do because of the job that we do."
Each child also got to take home a surprise gift, and had an opportunity to get autographs and photographs with members of the Commanders team. The Holiday Huddle is the latest event that the Green Family Foundation, a nonprofit led by Green and his wife Jewel, and the Commanders have organized as part of their partnership with DCHA.
Green, who played 20 seasons as a cornerback for Washington and has deep ties to the community, regularly takes part in DCHA youth engagement events. He previously hosted youth football camps with the Commanders for hundreds of DCHA kids. He also took part in a Q&A event earlier this year with DCHA's interns and apprentices.
