Chile Jazz for Peace Festival, supported by UNESCO, to be held in October

The fifth edition of the "Chile Jazz for Peace Festival 2024: Jazz as a Tool for Peace and Unity" will be held from 2 to 5 October 2024, with events in Santiago and El Quisco. The festival is supported by the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.

This festival aims to highlight the role of jazz as an educational tool that promotes freedom, tolerance, and intercultural dialogue. To achieve this, it brings together prominent national and international artists with the goal of fostering peace and unity. One of the standout participants this year is Panamanian pianist and UNESCO Artist for Peace, Danilo Pérez, a multiple Grammy Award winner.

In addition to offering concerts, the festival will provide jazz masterclasses for those interested. At the opening ceremony on 3 October, there will be a free performance in Santiago featuring musicians Patricia Zárate, Ciara Moser, Andrew McAnsh, and the Ensemble for Peace.

Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, underscored the importance of the event: "In this new edition of the Jazz for Peace Festival, we celebrate diversity and integration, fundamental values of this art form that promotes mutual respect, understanding, and, above all, peace. The history of jazz is intertwined with efforts to uphold human dignity, democracy, and civil rights. Its rhythms and diversity have strengthened the fight against all forms of discrimination and racism."

She added, "UNESCO believes in the power of jazz as a driver for peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding. This year, the festival expands its horizons with performances not only in Santiago but also in other regions. We invite you to be part of this unique event, where music becomes a bridge to building a fairer and more harmonious world."

The Chile Jazz for Peace Festival is organised by the Santiago Conservatory in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Berklee College of Music (USA), the Global Music Therapy Center, the Municipality of El Quisco, the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile, the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, the Manuel de Salas Experimental High School, and the Embassy of Panama in Chile.
