CABEI launches CAMBio II Program in Guatemala with first climate-related disbursement of US$400,000

Guatemala City, July 28, 2025. - As part of regional efforts to boost climate change adaptation, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has made the first disbursement under its CAMBio II program in Guatemala, totaling US$400,000. These funds are aimed at supporting 17 small coffee growers.

The financing, provided through Banco de Desarrollo Rural (BANRURAL), will enable beneficiaries to strengthen their production systems with sustainable practices and access working capital to ensure the continuity of their farming activities.

"This first disbursement represents a tangible step toward building more resilient and sustainable rural economies. Through CAMBio II, we reaffirm our commitment to helping small producers adapt to climate change by providing financial and technical solutions that transform their livelihoods," said Gisela Sánchez, CABEI Executive President.

The participating coffee growers will implement agricultural best practices designed to enhance farm resilience, reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events, and conserve natural resources.

This milestone marks the beginning of CAMBio II operations in Guatemala, an initiative led by CABEI in partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The program focuses on strengthening micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as they transition to more sustainable production models, providing access to green credit and non-reimbursable technical assistance to enhance their technical, productive, and climate-related capacities.

CAMBio II includes interventions in key sectors such as agroforestry, sustainable tourism, forest management, organic agriculture, and sustainable fisheries. It is set to continue expanding in Guatemala and other countries across the region, promoting environmental resilience from within local productive communities.
