Hundreds of households are expected to take part in the City's Resource Recovery Weekend this April, helping divert tonnes of hard-to-recycle material from landfill in a single weekend.
The event, formerly known as the Community Waste Drop-off Weekend, will be held on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April 2026, from 9am to 3pm, at the Ashby Operations Centre. Residents can conveniently drop off bulk cardboard, polystyrene, e-waste, and tyres (limit of four per household).
Mayor Linda Aitken said the event plays an important role in supporting the City's waste reduction goals.
"Reducing waste to landfill and increasing recycling are key priorities for the City, and this event provides a practical way for residents to make a positive environmental impact," Mayor Aitken said.
The Resource Recovery Weekend supports the City's ongoing commitment to sustainability by offering residents a convenient and environmentally responsible option for disposing of materials that cannot be placed in household bins.
Last year, more than 800 residents took part, delivering impressive outcomes, including:
Mayor Aitken said the results demonstrate the power of community action.
"Diverting more than eight tonnes of material in a single weekend shows the real impact these events have."
