WASHINGTON, DC- Today, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced that she secured a $9.9 million loan through the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to back Buell Motorcycle Company, an iconic Grand Rapids-based manufacturer poised to play a major role in restoring America's manufacturing leadership.
"West Michigan is the beating heart of American manufacturing, and Buell is exactly the kind of company we should be investing in," said Rep. Scholten."I've seen firsthand the innovation happening on the factory floor in Grand Rapids. With EXIM's support, Buell can scale up production, strengthen our domestic supply chains, and help ensure the U.S. stays competitive against foreign adversaries. This support will mean more jobs here at home and a more secure future for our country."
Rep. Scholten has been a strong advocate for Buell's application, including submitting a formal letter of support after personally touring the company's factory in Grand Rapids. She emphasized Buell's importance to West Michigan's economy and to America's broader manufacturing and national security goals.
Buell's advancements in lightweight engine and vehicle technologies are critical to driving innovation in advanced manufacturing while bolstering national security. EXIM's investment will also create a ripple effect across West Michigan, supporting hundreds of component manufacturers and helping sustain and grow good-paying jobs throughout the region.
Rep. Scholten will continue working to ensure federal investments prioritize American workers, domestic manufacturers, and communities like West Michigan that have long powered the nation's economy.
