Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to improve pedestrian safety in Georgia.
Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act to help communities address dangerous gaps in sidewalks, bike lanes, and other active transportation networks.
The bipartisan bill, led by Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ron Johnson (R-WI), would allow states and localities to use Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds to complete pedestrian and cyclist safety projects. It would also help rural and underserved communities implement safety upgrades.
"I am working across the aisle to make our roadways safer for pedestrians," Sen. Ossoff said. "This bipartisan legislation would help address gaps in pedestrian and cyclist safety."
"Passing the Langenkamp Act means that more Georgians will get home safely at the end of their trip - Go Georgia couldn't be more grateful for Senator Ossoff's leadership to advance this life-or-death issue," said John Devine, Executive Director of Go Georgia.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect Georgia families.
In January, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock delivered over $50 million through the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program to help strengthen road safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.
Last January, Sen. Ossoff delivered $2.8 million in Federal resources through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program, created by the bipartisan infrastructure law, to help revitalize historically underserved areas and improve mobility and connectivity - helping families get to work, school, the doctor's office, and more.
In 2024, Sen. Ossoff, alongside Sen. Warnock, announced over $37 million in Federal funding for localities across Georgia to strengthen road safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers, as well as promote better connectivity among communities.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered over $3.5 million in Federal funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law to help local governments create and execute safety action plans aimed at improving road safety and preventing deaths and injuries to drivers and pedestrians.
