This pathway supports EV charger installation across several multifamily properties, increasing access to convenient and reliable EV charging for Colorado apartment dwellers
Statewide - Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 - The Colorado Energy Office announced Thursday that it is piloting updates to its Charge Ahead Colorado grant application to allow multifamily housing property developers, managers, and contractors to request funding for EV charging stations at multiple locations through a single application. By reducing the administrative burden and overall cost of installation, the Multifamily Housing (MFH) Portfolio pilot encourages EV charger installation at more multifamily properties in Colorado, ensuring that Coloradans who live in apartments and condos have access to charging at home.
"Widespread EV adoption in Colorado is essential to achieve our ambitious climate goals, and we are committed to ensuring all Coloradans can choose to drive an EV," said CEO Executive Director Will Toor. "Electric vehicles cut pollution, improve air quality, and save people money. Encouraging charging access where people live will enable more Coloradans to take advantage of the many benefits EVs have to offer."
Coloradans who live in MFH often have lower incomes and rent their homes. Lack of access to a garage or outlet to charge at MFH can prevent these residents from being able to drive an EV. The Charge Ahead Colorado MFH Portfolio aims to address this barrier by making this funding opportunity more attractive to companies that own and manage multifamily developments. Not only does this funding pathway eliminate administrative costs associated with submitting multiple grant applications, but it also allows for larger scale projects, which are more cost-effective and reduce overall installation costs.
The MFH Portfolio option is available for MFH developers, managers, and contractors applying for funding to install Level 2 chargers at at least three locations. To maximize the impact of this program for Coloradans with the greatest barriers to EV adoption, the Colorado Energy Office offers enhanced incentives for projects at locations that primarily serve low-income and disproportionately impacted communities.
The Colorado Energy Office will accept applications for the MFH Portfolio during the Charge Ahead Colorado January application round, which opens January 13, 2025. Applicants who are planning to install Level 2 chargers at individual sites or direct-current fast chargers should apply through the Standard Application. Applications are due no later than 5:00 PM MT on February 14, 2025. More information about how to apply is available on the Charge Ahead Colorado Webpage.
The Colorado Energy Office will host a webinar on the Charge Ahead Colorado grant program on January 14, 2025 at 4:30 PM MT, in partnership with the ReCharge Colorado coaches. Register for the webinar to learn more about Charge Ahead Colorado and the MFH portfolio, review the application process, and ask questions about the program.
