Statement by President Meloni on Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Journey to Africa

Both personally and on behalf of the Italian Government, I wish to convey our gratitude to Pope Leo XIV and our sincerest wishes for the success of his Apostolic Journey, which will take him to Africa for the first time and will see him visit four nations: Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.

May the Holy Father's Ministry help resolve conflicts and restore peace, both within and between nations, following in the footsteps of his Predecessors, and may he provide support and comfort to the Christian communities he will have the opportunity to meet during his journey.

Italy will continue to do its part in fostering the construction of a new cooperation model with the African continent and in supporting peace, development, and the well-being of peoples.
