Warwick, RI - In response to Senator Jack Reed's recent remarks attacking President Trump's plan to use Guantanamo Bay to detain illegal immigrants, including members of violent transnational gangs, Republican of RI Party Chairman Joe Powers issued a scathing rebuke, calling out what he described as blatant hypocrisy and dangerous political theater.
"Senator Reed claims Guantanamo Bay is a waste of taxpayer dollars? Funny-he didn't seem too concerned when the Biden Administration let gang members, rapists, murderers, and drug traffickers stream across the southern border like it was a 2-for-1 special at a Vegas buffet," said Chairman Powers."Let's be honest-if the Biden Administration had done its job, secured the border, enforced existing immigration laws, and supported ICE, then President Trump wouldn't have to take bold, extraordinary measures to stop the bleeding. But they didn't. So he is."
"What's truly illogical is letting criminal aliens flood into our country while ICE is overwhelmed, and then criticizing the one man actually doing something about it." Responding to Reed calling the GTMO plan "illogical," "wasteful," and "illegal," Powers fired back,"The left doesn't want solutions-they want soundbites. They've turned border security into a political football, and now they're crying foul because President Trump's playing to win."
Addressing Reed's concern over military readiness, Powers didn't hold back,"Senator Reed is worried about military resources being 'carelessly wasted'? Where was that energy when Biden was flying illegal immigrants all over the country in the dead of night, using DHS like a taxpayer-funded Uber service? Our troops are always ready to answer the call-and if that call means protecting this nation from an invasion of criminals, so be it."
"It's laughable watching Senator Reed suddenly pretend to be a fiscal hawk. Powers continued, "He's rubber-stamped every bloated, pork-filled spending bill Biden sent to the Hill. Now he's counting nickels when Trump steps in to actually protect American lives? Please.""Let me make this crystal clear: the Biden Administration opened the floodgates. President Trump is just trying to mop up the mess," Powers concluded."If Senator Reed wants to talk about what's 'harmful to our military readiness,' he should take a look at what happens when our southern border becomes a highway for human traffickers and drug cartels. Until then, maybe he should spend less time issuing dramatic press releases and more time standing up for the security of the American people."
