Senator Markey Votes to Stop Trump’s Illegal Iran War

Washington (March 18, 2026) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after voting for the second time to prevent the Trump administration from further military action against Iran without congressional approval. The vote failed, 47-53.

"I just left the Senate floor where I voted for a War Powers Resolution to end Trump's illegal war with Iran. He's been destroying our government since day one of this administration, and now he's waging a reckless, unconstitutional war with Iran.

"Trump's chaos abroad is costing us here at home. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Big Oil isn't going to eat any higher costs - they are passing them on to American families. And new reporting reveals that the State Department's entire team of oil and gas experts were fired by Elon Musk and DOGE last year.

"Trump went into this war with no plan, no experts, and no concern for how it would harm Americans. And it is clear he has no concern for the innocent lives and lives of our servicemembers that are already being lost abroad.

"Enough is enough. We are dealing with a completely out of control President. We need to end this war now."
