2024 Award Winners

The City of Middleton is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Sustainable Middleton Awards, recognizing individuals, businesses, and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to sustainability in our community.

In its third year, the Sustainable Middleton Awards program, coordinated by the City's Sustainability Committee, highlights those demonstrating environmental leadership and community impact through meaningful action.

This year's honorees include:

  • Faye and Brian Hartmann - for transforming their residential property into an educational oasis of native gardens, rainwater infiltration, and pollinator habitat.
  • Kevin Munson - for exceptional stewardship of Pheasant Branch Conservancy through environmental education, social media storytelling, and his wildlife photography.
  • Tony Krohm, City Forester, for leading urban forestry and habitat restoration initiatives on public lands.
  • PKK Lighting, Inc. - for operating as a zero-discharge recycling facility and promoting low-energy lighting solutions.
  • PPD Clinical Research Services, Thermo Fisher Scientific - for installing and supporting a hydroponic "Flex Farm" garden at Pope Farm Elementary, teaching sustainability and STEAM skills to students.
  • WayForward Resources Family Garden - for providing culturally inclusive access to fresh produce and hands-on gardening experience for more than 200 families.

"These awardees reflect the best of Middleton - community-minded, forward-thinking, and committed to creating a healthier future," said Mayor Emily Kuhn. "Their efforts make sustainability real and visible in everyday life, and I'm so proud to celebrate their leadership."

The Middleton Common Council formally recognized the awards on May 6, 2025, with a proclamation honoring each recipient's contributions to the City's sustainability goals.
