Arizona’s Family On Your Side Podcast: “Teaching financial literacy to kids”

Pathward's President Anthony Sharett joined Arizona's Family consumer investigative reporter Susan Campbell for an episode of the On Your Side podcast to discuss Pathward's commitment to financial literacy and equipping young people with the knowledge and tools they need to start their financial journey with confidence.

In the episode, Sharett reflected on Pathward's Financial Fundamentals event - an interactive financial literacy experience hosted at McClintock High School in Tempe, Arizona, on March 26, in partnership with Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation and the Arizona Council on Economic Education. The event welcomed 300 students and featured hands-on learning stations led by Pathward employee volunteers, followed by an interactive career and financial advice panel.

Sharett spoke with Campbell about the broader challenge of financial literacy, including the reality that millions of Americans remain unbanked or underbanked, and how starting these conversations early can set young people on a path toward financial freedom.

"Through our Pathward financial literacy programs that we do throughout the country, we are trying to do three things: reach, equip, and empower these students to become more knowledgeable about the core tenets of financial literacy," said Sharett. "A lot of it starts with mindset. . .What you can control is how much you spend, whether you pay yourself first, and the choices you make around incurring debt."

Sharett also discussed how Pathward's partnerships with like-minded fintechs, including those offering earned wage access, extend its mission of powering financial inclusion for the unbanked and underbanked.
