Cary, NC - As the nation marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Cary invites residents and visitors to celebrate America's milestone anniversary through Independence Day festivities and special America250 programming. From patriotic concerts and family-friendly activities to fireworks and historical exhibits, Cary's events offer opportunities to honor the nation's history while bringing the community together.
"There's no better place to celebrate America's 250th anniversary than Cary," said Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Jr. "On behalf of the entire Council, I'm grateful to our outstanding staff and community partners for organizing events that give citizens of all ages the chance to gather, learn, celebrate, and enjoy the community we're so fortunate to call home."
Independence Day festivities begin July 3 and continue through July 4 with activities at Downtown Cary Park, Cary Arts Center, Bond Park, and Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Highlights include the Cary Town Band's America250 Patriotic Celebration, the annual Independence Day Fishing Tournament, a screening of the 90s classic "Independence Day", and Cary's signature celebration featuring the North Carolina Symphony and fireworks over Symphony Lake at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
America250 celebrations continue beyond Independence Day weekend. From July 18-25, Cary will host the American Revolution Experience, a traveling exhibition developed by the American Battlefield Trust and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and presented by the Asbury Station chapter of the DAR. The exhibit will offer visitors an opportunity to interact with and explore the people, places, and events that shaped the nation's founding.
Together, these events provide opportunities throughout the month for residents and visitors of all ages to celebrate as the nation commemorates its 250th anniversary.
