NEW YORK, OCTOBER 5, 2026 - Hearst today announced that Chris Tribbey has been named editor of the Midland (Texas) Reporter-Telegram. Tribbey will lead the editorial side of the newspaper and its digital products.
The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Jeff Johnson and Hearst Community Newspapers President Jeff Bergin.
"Chris' three decades in journalism, combined with his track record in competitive markets, make him exactly the kind of leader we need to strengthen the Reporter-Telegram's position in the Permian Basin," said Bergin. "We're investing in editorial excellence in Midland because it matters to the community we serve."
Tribbey is an award-winning journalist with more than 30 years of experience in digital and print media, and has reported on everything from small-town city council meetings to presidential elections. His media career began while working at newspapers in the San Diego and the San Francisco Bay areas. Later in his career, he worked as a reporter and editor for various media and entertainment outlets covering Hollywood and technology. He is a graduate of Ohio State University.
Tribbey served since 2012 as the editorial director for the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), a trade organization representing hundreds of technology firms servicing the content industry. Previously, Tribbey was city editor of the Napa Valley Register and North County Times (San Diego) newspapers from 2002 to 2007, as well as editor-in-chief of the Martinez News-Gazette in 2001 and 2002. His first journalism job was as sports editor of a weekly newspaper at age 16.
"It's an exciting time to be covering the news in the Midland-Odessa community," Tribbey said. "There's no shortage of stories to be told here, and I'm looking forward to giving the community all the news we can possibly find."
