Derek Berger Appointed Vice President for University Advancement at Wentworth

January 13, 2026

Wentworth Institute of Technology is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Berger as the new Vice President for University Advancement, effective February 2. Berger joins Wentworth following a successful tenure at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Development.

During his time at UMass Lowell, Berger was instrumental in executing a $150 million capital campaign and launching a subsequent $250 million initiative. His deep expertise in alumni engagement, individual philanthropy, and corporate partnerships will be vital as Wentworth continues to expand its mission of academic excellence and student success.

"Derek's familiarity with STEM- and design-focused institutions, along with his knowledge of the Boston corporate and philanthropic ecosystem, make him particularly well suited to Wentworth's mission and ambitions," said President Mark A. Thompson.
