Bridge reopens tomorrow by 5 a.m. following a weekend closure for maintenance
Denver - Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) will reopen the 8th Avenue Viaduct to vehicle travel tomorrow, Monday, July 28, and is introducing a speed limit reduction on the bridge between Tejon and Mariposa streets from 30 mph to 10 mph. This following a closure this weekend for maintenance.
DOTI has not yet determined if the speed limit reduction will be temporary or permanent, but wants vehicle and motorcycle operators to drive slowly over the bridge and two steel plates that were installed over the bridge's expansion joints this weekend. The metal plates will be in place until the damaged joints are repaired or replaced. The multiuse path on the viaduct remains open for walking and biking and was not impacted by this weekend's work.
DOTI anticipates that maintenance will continue to be necessary on the viaduct and is working to ensure it continues to serve the travelling public while seeking funding to replace the west side of the viaduct and bring the rest down to grade, or street, level for greater connectivity.
The viaduct replacement proposal is on the list of projects included in the Vibrant Denver Bond that Denver City Council is considering now for placement on the November ballot.
