China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland Ambassador Jia Guide Meets with Secretary General[...]

On 4 February 2026, H.E. Mr. JIA Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting global governance.

Ambassador JIA noted that the IPU, as the world's most influential international parliamentary organization, boasts a long history and broad membership, and serves as an important platform for legislatures worldwide to engage in dialogue and promote cooperation. Against the backdrop of a turbulent and transforming international landscape, China stands ready to work closely with the IPU in various fields to jointly advocate and practice true multilateralism, and to contribute to the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.

Secretary General Chungong welcomed Ambassador JIA on his assumption of office. He commended China's positive role in international affairs and strong support for the IPU. He pointed out that China's experience in promoting sustainable development and advancing whole-process people's democracy provides useful reference. The IPU is willing to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China.
