CARTERSVILLE, GA - Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that crews in Northwest Georgia treated more than 5,600 miles of roads prior to the winter weather arriving. GDOT began treating the roads Friday at 7 p.m., and within 24 hours all state routes in the 17 counties of NWGA were treated with brine.

By the Numbers (Through 1/24//26):
  • Miles of Roads Treated: 5,673 Miles
  • Brine Used: 263,935 Gallons
  • Salt Used: 31 Tones
GDOT reminds the public to please stay off the roads during with weather event and afterward until the roads are safe for travel. Road condition updates will be posted on the GDOT NWGA Facebook page and X account.

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.
