Part of a major milestone of medical school, graduating students learn their residency match
CHICAGO --- The excitement of Match Day for graduating medical students from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine begins at 10:15 a.m. (CT) Friday, March 20. At this annual event, Northwestern students receive the envelopes that reveal where they will train as residents for the next three to seven years.

Match Day is held annually at 157 medical schools around the country to announce the results of the National Residents Matching Program. It's when fourth-year medical students gather to find out the location of their residency training.

WHEN: Doors open 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 20; 11 a.m. Match results revealed

"Match Day is not just a 'day,' it's a culmination of years of hard work and dedication for medical students nationally," said Dr. Marianne Green, vice dean for education and chair of medical education at Feinberg. "It marks the beginning of the next chapter in the lives of these students as they become physicians. Those of us who are lucky enough to work with this talented generation of students are looking forward to the changes they will make in health care."

10:43 a.m.: All attendees get champagne for toast
10:48 a.m.: Toast
10:50 a.m.: Instructions and students line up for envelopes
