WASHINGTON - Today, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) released the following statement on the start of the Affordable Care Act's open enrollment season:
"Today, families across the country are starting to sign up for next year's health coverage, and they're seeing that the affordable care they relied on is now out of reach. Because Republicans refused to extend the ACA premium tax credits, 24 million Americans will see their premiums double or be kicked off their health care altogether.
"In Maricopa County, a family of four that currently pays $514 a month for their ACA plan will pay over $2,400 next year for the same plan if these tax credits expire. That's nearly $2,000 more each month. Most families can't afford that.
"Republicans had every chance to prevent this. They could have extended the ACA tax credits, but instead they chose to raise health care costs for millions of families. They would rather use Americans' health care as a political weapon than do their jobs."
