Gov. Mike Braun Orders Period of Mourning and Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Fallen Dubois County Firefighter
INDIANAPOLIS - Consistent with protocol, Governor Mike Braun has declared a period of mourning in Dubois County to honor the life and service of Lucas Gehlhausen, a volunteer firefighter with the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department who died in the line of duty on Sunday, Sept. 7.
As part of this observance, the Governor has directed that flags be flown at half-staff in Dubois County, at the Indiana Statehouse and at the Indiana Law Enforcement and Firefighters Memorial, effective immediately through sunset on Friday, Sept. 19.
"Firefighter Gehlhausen was a Jasper native, farmer and 17-year member of the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department who lived a life defined by courage and care for others," said Governor Braun. "My deepest condolences are with his family and fellow firefighters as they mourn this tremendous loss."
Governor Braun encourages residents, businesses and organizations across Dubois County to join in lowering their flags in honor of Firefighter Gehlhausen.
