Rep. Stansbury Announces NM State Rep. Andrea Romero, Epstein Truth Commission Leader, as State of the Union Guest

ALBUQUERQUE- Representative Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) announced today that New Mexico State House Representative Andrea Romero (NM D-48)will join as her guest at the State of the Union at the United States Capitol, Tuesday, February 24th, 2026.

State Representative Romero co-led the passage of New Mexico House Resolution 1 to establish a Truth Commission to investigate the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein in New Mexico. State Rep. Romero will join Congresswoman Stansbury at the State of the Union, alongside over a dozen Epstein survivors attending as guests of other Members of Congress.

"This State of the Union, we are centering the voices of survivors and those seeking justice and accountability. Representative Romero is a fierce and fearless leader in the fight for justice in New Mexico," said Rep. Stansbury. "Her leadership in the New Mexico Legislature is not just about accountability, but about creating meaningful change. Rep. Romero is leading the charge with the Epstein Truth Commission to examine the systemic failures that allowed Epstein's crimes to go unchecked for decades."

The bipartisan HR1 passed the New Mexico Legislature unanimously on Monday, February 23, with the Epstein Truth Commission holding its first organizational meeting on Tuesday morning. Yesterday, the New Mexico State Attorney General announced it would reopen an investigation into Epstein's potential crimes in New Mexico. This includes potential crimes at Zorro Ranch-where Epstein held a sprawling ranch and several survivors reported abuse.

The Truth Commission will investigate why these crimes were never fully investigated, especially after the United States Department of Justice asked New Mexico to end its investigation. Newly unsealed files disclosed through the passage of Congress's Epstein Files Transparency Act have raised new questions about why these crimes were not prosecuted. The Commission will pursue justice and accountability in these cases and make recommendations to ensure this can never happen in New Mexico again.

Rep. Stansbury and State Rep. Romero's work reflects a deep commitment to accountability and justice for the survivors-at both the federal and state levels. New Mexico is acting where the federal government has failed-once again leading the way.
